Gesha is one of the highest rated coffee variety known in specialty coffee sector. Loved by millions of coffee geeks around the world it's the Panamanian single origin that is most appreciated.
This year we directly imported Gesha beans from farm in Panama, owned by Janson family. Part of the farm that our coffee (lot 288) comes from is called 97 and that is the year then the farm has been established. It is located in Talamanca mountains, furthest to the west of Panama, near Baru volcano and the La Amistad nature reserve.
Gesha's flavour and aroma complexity come down to very rich in minerals volcanic soil, unique microclimate, careful care of trees and the perfect harvest time of just rightly ripe fruits. They are only hand picked and then processed in the nearby mill run by Janson family. After initial wash coffee is fermented for 72h and then dried in two stages. First stage takes place on the concrete patio and lasts 2 days to be followed by drying on the elevated African beds where coffee stays for 16 days. Main goal for extended fermentation is to bring out wonderful and refreshing aroma while keeping the naturalness of Gesha variety.
